Sometimes I make something so simple and obvious that I hesitate to post it here, for fear that people are going to look at it and go, "um, duh". But sometimes it's so good, like today, that I think sharing is nice. Also, posting yet another blended green drink might not be as exciting to you all as it is to me. But, this is my blog and I love my blended greens and this one involves a young Thai coconut.
Three ingredients:
1 young Thai coconut, flesh + water
1 handful spinach
1 tablespoon spirulina
Now, you probably should like the taste of spirulina if you're going to love this. I happen to enjoy spirulina by the spoonful and could eat it on its own or sprinkled on just about anything. This drink also lets the fresh sweet taste of the coconut shine through. That makes me double happy.
Do you like the taste of spirulina? If you make this drink let me know what you think. And have a super Sunday!
I don't seem to have access to young coconuts but this looks interesting. How sweet is it? I often add spirulina to my smoothies but I tend to disguise the flavour with fruit and other greens.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying so hard to like spirulina because I know it is supposed to be so good for you! I have these vegan protein powders that have spirulina in it and I've been trying to drink them...working my way up there so when I'm ready for a step up I'll definitely try this!
ReplyDeletewow. I love coconut
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's an aquired taste. Or I have mutant taste buds, haha. I think it tastes kind of cheesy. On the other hand, I don't like any other green powders. They make me gag. I guess we each have our own special tastes :)
ReplyDeleteIt's semi-sweet or kind of lightly sweet from the coconut. This would be great with some fruit added and would definitely mask the flavor of the spirulina if you're not a fan of it.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad you posted this because I think that it sounds pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have always been a bit freaked out by spirulina honestly, but I suppose I should try it eventually. Especially when I am presented with a great looking smoothie recipe like this :)
I've never eaten (or seen) spirulina on its own so I wouldn't really know what it tastes like, but I have no problem with it in other food and the coconut part sounds so great, I'm sure this tastes good.
ReplyDeleteLove the glass, it makes the drink look bubbly!
Mmm! Hardcore with the spirulina but I'd try it! Sounds great! Gotta love the coconut!
ReplyDeleteI really do NOT like the taste of spirulina, so I take it in capsules. I am fine with barleygrass, wheatgrass and chlorella though- so these are good substitutions for my green smoothies. I have been using coconut flesh in my smoothies too and love it!

I think the blended coconut would be delicious with the addition of any greens :)
ReplyDeleteI love my green drinks, too, and post them from time to time. Sometimes I think I could just keep using the same file photos, because they always appear the same: GREEN! :-)
ReplyDeleteHa ha. At first I thought you had chia in it, but it's just the bubble effect on the glass. Very cool.
oh dear, although i usually include spirulina in my smoothies because i know it's good for me, i cannot stand the taste so i make sure there are lots of other yummy flavours to overpower it. i also am not a fan of the smell of it and always hold my breath when i open the container! hahaha, i'm such a wimp.
ReplyDeleteHaha, luckily it blends well with fruit and is fairly easy to disguise. No one in my every day personal life likes the taste of it, so I hide it. :)
